Vegetarian African Food project

In springtime this year our kitchen crew cooked 10 days very delicious vegetarian food for an international conference of African scientists and leaders of universities from Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya.

As one of the main goals is to spread vegetarian, plant protein diet for the poor population of Africa they asked us to cook a balanced vegetarian menu for 10 days. „Support Africa“ is an international foundation who are supported by the European Parlament and already supported several medical clinics and social projects in Africa.

It´s been a very successful meeting as Prof. Pfeiffer mentioned at the end of the conference as they found many native wild plants with high amounts of protein. Finally the scientists set up a 5-years-program starting with collecting and growing best seeds for larger agriculture projects based on natural ecologies only.

Thanks to Swamiji and the kitchen crew to make this happen!

Conference on the development of non-animal protein in Sub-Saharan Africa

Research Institute for Sub-Saharan African Studies, SUPPORT AFRICA STIFTUNG, Nassau, April 4 - 15, 2011

Aim

Malnutrition, caused by insufficient protein, is often the source of diseases and poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa. Since further population explosions can be expected, Africans will not have sufficient animal protein in the future. this scenario will become even more severe through climatic changes.

Scientists at African universities undertook independently extensive research on this matter in cooperation with the Research Institute for Sub-Saharan Studies. Now they would like to exchange their findings in a preparatory conference and prepare actions for further research on non-animal proteins.

Known and used vegatable proteins as well as unknown wild plants shall be researched on interdisciplinary and developed further agrnonomical and genetically as well as their cultivation and nutritional use promoted and fostered productions of new non-animal protein products.

Finally, non-animal protein products shall be promoted for home usage and farming. Development-political measures for the introduction and spreading of non-animal poor populations and their production and marketing shall be supported.

Seva in Kenya

Swami Vishwananda Seva Society did a seva the 19th of February at joy town primary school which is based in thika. This school has about 400 children suffering from either mentally challenged or physical disabilities.

The seva group bought bread, juice, sweets, milk and clothes for the children. We received donations from Canada which was equivalent to Ksh 15,000. The donations were through individuals and collected by Satish.

The children were so happy and excited to have us there. We have done almost 4 seva in this place since last year. It was beautiful to receive this love from them.

Swami Vishwananda seva Group in Kenya

Just before we had this seva, someone popped this question to me - What do we mean by seva? And it made me wonder!!

Seva actually is to serve all selflessly, with love just as you would serve the divine because he lives in all of us. It could be from making someone smile to sending healing!!

When we visited the children, so many thoughts run through the mind, that how the grace of the divine has been with us that we are so blessed to at least be in a state that we can understand the gift of life. Yet, we are always unsettled, we want more? We never satisfied. Then what would I say about the kids?

We request all those who will read this report, to take a moment, and visualize these children and pray for them to heal. Take a moment to reflect your life, and feel the grace of God that has always been there with you.

Swami Vishwananda seva's group made Seva for Christmas in Kenya

The seva volunteers arranged to do a seva on the 25th December 2010 at Caroline Wambui Mungai Foundation. This is a foundation that was formed in the memory of Caroline. The foundation was established in December 2004 to rescue orphans and vulnerable children from poverty to destiny with love. We wanted to celebrate Christmas day with the children. Christmas day is the day when Jesus was born. Celebrating Christmas is not just to attend to churches, Midnight masses or Bhajan singing but it’s much deeper than that. This is the day when Jesus brought something new to the world, which is forgiveness, Compassion and Love.
When we arrived, all the children were eagerly waiting for us. We had done our previous seva at the same place on 28th November 2010. The children were so excited to see us again and eagerly greeted each one of us with so much joy and Happiness. We celebrated this day with the children with Cake, gifts, decorations and singing songs.

The children continuously sang songs and danced. There was so much love flowing from their heart. It was an amazing feeling to be around these children who are blessed with pure hearts.
We wish to continue serving the children and with your assistance we will be able to create a better environment for these children who have nowhere to turn to but us!

Swami Vishwananda wish you an happy new year 2011

‘If you want to change, change now, open your hearts to love’ .
“God is in your heart now. The only thing that you have to do is to make the first step in His direction. You have to want Him with all your soul and all your heart”.
On behalf of the swami Vishwananda seva society, we wish to thank all the seva members and donators who have selflessly served these children with so much joy, and happiness. Without you all, this seva would not have been complete. Your presence in each of the sevas has been appreciated. May God bless you all.

Swami Vishwananda Seva's group did seva on 28th November 2010

The seva volunteers arranged to do a seva on the 28th November 2010 at Caroline Wambui Mungai Foundation. This is a foundation that was formed in the memory of Caroline. The foundation was established in December 2004 to rescue orphans and vulnerable children from poverty to destiny with love.
We donated food, exercise books, sweets, biscuits, fruits to the children. We reached the location at around 12 noon but were waiting for the children as all of them had gone to the church for prayers. Upon arrivals, the children rushed out from the bus, eagerly to greet each one of us with so much joy and happiness. It was a wonderful experience just to have them come and greet.

When we finished serving all the children with food, we started to distribute the ‘goodies’ when Kamla Auntie (Rakesh’s mum) realized that the Bag with all the goodies was having a strong smell of vibhuti. On opening the bag, all the goodies were blessed with Vibhuti.

We later moved to a smaller room where all the children sat and sang holy songs, prayed and waited for us to serve them with the food. Each child received the food with such gratitude. It was definitely a blessed weekend for each one of us.
